Two nights ago the guild announced the winners for the 2018 edition of these annual awards that honor production design in 11 categories of film television, commercials, music videos and, for the first time, animation features. ADG President Nelson Coates and Art Directors Council Chair Mark Worthington presided over the awards ceremony with comedian Jonathan Fernandez serving as host. Winners are in *BLUE .  To check winners in all categories check press release at official site here (pdf file). ---///--- 1/5/18 Yesterday the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) announced the nominations for the 22nd edition of their Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, music videos and, for the first time, animation features.  The announcement was made by Art Directors Guild President Nelson Coates and Awards Producers Thomas Walsh and Thomas Wilkins. As previously announced, ADG Awards will honor eight-time Academy Awar...

68th Annual ACE EDDIE Awards Winners

Image
A couple of days ago the ACE society had their awards ceremony and perhaps the biggest surprise is to have I, Tonya winning an editing award as believe there was nothing outstanding in film when it came to editing, sigh. More expected Dunkirk collected the Dramatic award which paves a road to an Oscar win in the editing category. Winners are in *BLUE .  To check winners in all categories, go official site here . ---///--- 1/3/18 A few moments ago the American Cinema Editors Society announced the nominations for the 2018 EDDIE Awards which recognizes outstanding editing in film, television and documentaries. Noteworthy are the changes organizers did to television and documentary categories where in general there is a clear category simplification and if you wish to learn changes go official site here . Know is the first industry tech group to announce nominations but the biggest surprise is that there is NO surprise! (lol)  Just check the list of 10 films divided in Dramatic an...

90th Academy Awards Nominations

Image
Recently AMPAS announced the nominations for the 2018 edition of the Oscars honoring films released in 2017.  The announcement was made by Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis; Haddish performance was not really adequate to be reading the most famous, most expected award nominations where names mean everything for those being honored with an Oscar nomination. Nevertheless, Haddish and Serkis announced online the nominees in 11 categories at 5:22am PT, with pre-taped category introductions by Academy members Priyanka Chopra, Rosario Dawson, Gal Gadot, Salma Hayek, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Molly Shannon, Rebel Wilson and Michelle Yeoh. Haddish and Serkis announced online and live TV in many countries of the world, the remaining 13 categories at 5:38 a.m. PT. Will not deny that highly enjoyed the format of the first part where categories were introduced with a short video exemplifying what the category was all about and starring female actors.  Perhaps because was the first...

24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Winners

Image
Yesterday evening the guild had their awards ceremony and for the first time ever had a host and was female as well as all award presenters.  So was a night of female actors, which I suppose goes well with all the demonstrations happening during the day all over the good old USA. Obviously this female thing does not reflect the industry, which is still male dominated; but, it's time the country has a strong shift toward better equality as if trend goes there, then the rest of the world will follow sooner than later.  Sigh. All right, enough of non-cinema related comments.  We know Actors guild is the largest of all and the one that has more Academy voters, so all eyes were fixed into what guild members will do and seems Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri as well as Frances McDormand have increased their chances to win top AMPAS awards.  As a matter of fact and according to what we have learn with PGA and SAG winners, it seems like Oscars male actor is lock whi...

29th Producers Guild of America Awards Winners

Image
Last night the guild had their awards ceremony and as expected (by me) The Shape of Water won top award to absolutely improve its chances to get AMPAS maximum honor. Same happens to Coco in animation and Jane in documentary; but still hope Oscar documentary category will include that French doc everyone is talking about.  Sigh. Biggest surprises came in the TV categories as even when honors were given to great shows (ones that behave like long-form-films) like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Handmaid's Tale, will not deny my surprise with the winner of the Non-Fiction category, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. Sigh. Winners are in *BLUE .  To check winners in all categories go official site here . ---///--- 1/5/18 Today the Producers Guild of America announced the nominations for their annual Awards and no doubt that from all guilds announcements these are the nominees most film pundits anxiously await as is directly related to the 10 possible Oscar nominees and ...

23rd Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards Winners

Image
Last night the film critic's group had their awards ceremony and no, wasn't able to watch live but seems ceremony was business as usual with nothing relevant happening. As expected The Shape of Water won top award and the most of the night, four; perhaps what was unexpected is Sally Hawkins not winning in the actress category. As was announced before, Gal Gadot received the #SeeHer Award presented by the Association of National Advertisers in conjunction with the CW Network.  Gadot accepted the award from her Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins.  Winners are in *BLUE .  To check winners in all categories go official site here . ---///--- 12/7/17 The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced today the nominees for the 2018 edition with The Shape of Water leading the pack with 14 nominations followed a bit far by Call Me by Your Name, Dunkirk, Lady Bird and The Post with 8 nominations each. Blade Runner 2049 collected 7 nominations followed by The Big Sick and T...

75th Annual Golden Globe Awards Winners

Image
Ceremony was too-rush for my taste as in the beginning winners could do long acceptance speeches but as show went on jokes/funny-moments started to disappear and long-faced presenters just read nominees and called the winner. Then, the all-black red carpet plus black ballroom look felt in two extreme senses, one: very-elegant and two: a funeral. Viewers decided which side suited best their feelings. Me saw elegance. Many tend to forget the Globes are given by journalists and NOT by movie makers, the greatest thing HFPA has is that used to give a very-entertaining, fun-to-watch show that many enjoyed for the entertainment value and not for who won the infamous awards which throughout the years have more scandals than "credibility". Nevertheless, as many winners mentioned in their acceptance speech, the group managed to elect a female president and believe that's their greatest achievement in current anniversary edition. Winners do not surprised me and was in the tele...
