2020 BAFTA Awards Nominations

Image
A few minutes ago the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for the current awards edition honoring films released during 2019 and undoubtedly these are the first nominations that could give us a better predictor to Oscars nominations as are selected by the industry and not the press. The nominations were announced by BAFTA Chief Executive Amanda Berry along Ella Balinska and Asa Butterfield at BAFTA Piccadilly in London and at post end is the video with the announcement. This year there are 39 feature films honored with a nomination.  Joker leads the pack with 11 nominations followed by Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood and The Irishman each with 10, 1917 with 9 and Jojo Rabbit with 6; then with 5 each Little Woman, Marriage Story and The Two Popes. Not surprising anymore, Netflix got 23 nominations in total followed by Sony with 16. This year the British Academy will honor for the first time a new category, casting.  Hope other awards f...

The awards ceremony for the 22nd edition of the BIFA's was hosted by actress and comedian Aisling Bea and held at London's Old Billingsgate last night, December 1st. Cannes 2019 Documentary Golden Eye Award winner For Sama became top award winner by winning four main awards: Best British Independent Film, Best Documentary, Best Director, and Best Editing; it's the first time a documentary wins BIFA's top award. The Personal History of David Copperfield won five awards: Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design which makes film the most awards winner of this edition. Perhaps the most interesting win of the night is what many claim it's the first win on the road to an Oscar, as Renée Zellweger wins Best Actress for her performance in Judy .  Last year Olivia Colman started collecting honors at BIFA and many expect Zellweger to go the same route as Colman went.  Can help but to mention that there is another B...

Today, March 3, I'm updating blog.  Big winner of the night, Roma by Alfonso Cuarón with four TOP awards; with more awards, seven,  The Favourite.  Very pleased with 2019 results.  Shame Oscar behaved differently and wouldn't be willing to honor greatness. Sigh. To check winners at official site go here.  Winners are below in *BLUE . ---///--- 1/9/19 A few hours ago the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for their current awards edition that honor films released during 2018 and this year the nominations almost look as I wish the Oscars will look as believe many of the honors are extremely well-deserved by the nominees.  Great!  The nominations were announced by Hayley Squires and Will Poulter at BAFTA's London headquarters, 195 Piccadilly. The Favourite leads the pack with 12 nominations followed by Roma, Bohemian Rhapsody, First Mand and A Star is Born with seven (7); Vice has 6, BlacKkKlansman 5 plus Cold Wa...

2018 BAFTA Awards Winners

A few days back BAFTA had their awards ceremony and followed the awards winners via twitter to later watch the TV broadcast with a ceremony that was a succession of awards presented by cinema personalities and was kind of boring with exception of the outstanding beginning with the Cirque du Soleil doing The Shape of Water inspired presentation. Truth is that got interested in finding via twitter which film was winning what; but when became obvious that the big winner of the night was going to be 3B's completely lost me and my interest as do not particularly enjoyed that film.  Sigh. Yes, the big winner of the night was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri as collected five statues and most were top awards as Best Film, Best British Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay.  The Shape of Water had the most nominations but collected only three with only one top award, Best Director to Guillermo del Toro who becomes frontrunner/favorite to win s...

20th British Independent Film Awards Winners

Last night was the awards ceremony with Lady Macbeth wining five awards including Best Actress for Florence Pugh, God's Own Country follows with four awards including Best British Film, The Death of Stalin also with four awards and most interesting, I Am Not a Witch wins 3 awards but remarkable is that film director, Rungano Nyoni wins Best Director and Best Debut Director, an achievement that happens not often, last time was in 2007 with Anton Corbijn for Control. Thanks to BIFA's 2017 nominations became interested in watching Lady Macbeth, a film that I had decided will skip.  I'm grateful to BIFA as was going to skip one of the most outstanding films from 2017, a film with great performances, great tech specs, but, most of all, a great director that could transform a well-known tale into storytelling anew. The end-result is a mesmerizing film, impossible to take off your eyes from the screen from the very first frame until the last one.  All honors here are well-deserved...
